sacred spaces

I love to create places and spaces that inspire creativity and stillness and peace in our home.

You may have figured this out by my creative spaces Pinterest board.

And, in all of my e-courses, I’ve always gone on and on and on about creating a space of our own as mothers.

In our home, we have a chalkboard on our garage door. We have a peace corner. We have an art cabinet. A writing box. A storytelling basket. A reading nook.

And, I have recently created an altar of my own that just fills me up so deeply inside.

And, I love to see my kids create their own special spaces, too.

In fact, just today as I write this, the hallway leading to my room was decorated with a trail of stale jelly beans they found hidden in a nook of something and a baby doll adorned next to a candle now sits on my bathroom sink.

Creating nooks and crannies that offer a place to sit quietly, reflect and create is one of my favorite tools for practicing living an awake life, especially at home. These places are often just for me but I’m not opposed to sharing them with my family. These places are often a place to reflect. A place to retreat to. A place to focus on myself. A place to snuggle. A place to dream. Brainstorm. Plan. Hope. Cry. Breathe.

a place for stillness

I hope you take the time to create your own space for stillness.

Maybe it’s a corner of a room.

Maybe it’s a bedside table.

Maybe it’s a table in the kitchen.

Maybe it’s just a shelf.

Whatever it is. Wherever is its. Make it your own. Create that sacred space for your hopes and dreams — and big deep breaths.

Every week for this year, I am offering a mindful challenge designed to get you practicing living a more awakened  life. This is Week 37 of 52 of {Project 52} Stay Awake. You are welcome to join in anytime during this year-long mindful living photo project. Please upload your photos to our Project 52: Stay Awake Flickr group so we can see what an Awake life means for you.
