Slowing down the GROWING UP

:: For December, our intention will simply be to live. Forget about all the shoulds and just enjoy your life. Take care of what needs cared for and smile along the way. Enjoy your life. Live your life.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. – Maya Angelou

I’ve been telling my girls one simple thing quite a lot lately.

You see, they will turn 7 in less than two months.

I see them shimmying on the counters to reach a glass on a high shelf to get themselves some water.

I see them pulling down bowls and scurrying across the floor from counter to pantry to refrigerator all just to get their own cheese and crackers.

I see them not just showering and dressing but turning on the hair dryer and drying their own hair.

Slow down!

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

Not yet.

So, I’ve been telling my girls one simple thing quite a lot lately.

You can’t grow up.

You simply will not turn 7.

I cannot allow it.

They smile the biggest possible smiles in response.

They try to convince me that this growing up thing is unstoppable.

That there isn’t one single thing I can do to stop them.

That they will soon be putting 4 + 3 candles on their cakes. That they will be putting 2+2+2+2 candles on their cakes.

{The math stories around here are pretty fun.}

They tell me that they will even turn 18 one day.

And I think … oh my.

Oh, my.

Slow. Down.

Let me get that glass for you.
