{Project 52} Honor Your Body

This is Week 14 of {Project 52} Stay Awake. You want to take care of yourself.

I know you do.

You want to do all those things the magazines tell you to do.

Eat those cancer fighting foods, go vegetarian or vegan, get at least 30 minutes of exercise.

And then there’s the organic diet or the paleo diet or the all raw fruit diet.

You want to do it.

You do.

I do, too, but you know what?

Some days it’s enough that we shower and have a moment to eat something before we rush out the door.Project 52 Week 6 Embrace the Moment

And then there’s work or raising kids all day.

And before know it, it’s dark, we have to make dinner and your partner’s not home from work.

In other words, doing what the magazines say and what the TV personalities say doesn’t always work for busy parents.

You have to honor your body anyway.

Because it’s that important.

But how?

Let’s start with breaking some of the rules.

What makes you feel good?

Yoga? Dancing? Hiking? Cleaning?

Do more of that.

What brings you joy?

Meditation under the stars? Sneaking out for a run in the early morning? Taking a hot bath and going to bed early?

Do more of that.

Let’s make sure that this taking care of our bodies business isn’t as hard as they make it out to be.

Forget the rules.

And just love your body.

Do more of the things that make you feel powerful, confident and beautiful.

This inward reflection of being awake about own bodies is the only way we’ll ever truly care enough to make a difference.

Project 52: Stay Awake — First, create a list of all the wonderful things your body does each day. Then, make a list of 5 things that will help you honor your body this week. Just five things. Each day, find one way to work one of those in until you get through the whole list this week. Want to know mine? Yoga, eat less sugar, eat five fruits and veggies each day, walk and play games outside with my girls.

Photo Tip — Take a picture of your feet standing — or another symbol — in a place that represents how you are taking care of yourself this week. Perhaps feet on your yoga mat. Or, feet on a trail, running. Or, feet in a foot soak to rest your weary heels. Even newly painted nails would be taking a moment to appreciate all that your body does for you.
