Project 52 | Find the Good

The news flashes and yet another tragic injustice has happened.

Find the good.

You wake up on a day filled with great outdoor plans, and it’s pouring.

Find the good.

You worked all day on dinner, and then ruined it.

Find the good.

The kids finally got absorbed in deep, creative play, and then start bickering.

Find the good.

You have an idea for an amazing project, but you cannot find a minute to spare to work on it.

Find the good.

You stayed up late, got up early and need a nap but that’s just not possible.

Find the good.

The mess in the house that was gone yesterday has returned.

Find the good.

You feel so alone, and friendless.

Find the good.

You keep searching and you just can’t seem to figure out your purpose in life.

Find the good.

On a whim, the kids decide to get creative and end up breaking the iPod.

Find the good.

Your child refuses to do anything in the water but cling to your body.

Find the good.

The power went out right before breakfast.

Find the good.

Life is full of moments that are less than ideal. Life is full of people who constantly disappoint. Life is full of darkness and moments to get over. Life is full of challenges and headaches and fuck ups. Life is full of let downs and imperfections.

But it’s also so full of sunshine and light that if you try hard enough, you’ll see right past the moon and find yourself staring straight at the stars.

And that’s when the smiles come … that’s when you have those epiphanies … that’s when life is good.

  1. Love this…
    This is what I tell my anxious child to try and help her build some resilience… but of course this is what I need to do myself.

    • I am telling this to my daughter, which is where it originates from, but it’s definitely what I need to tell myself all day, every day.

  2. My 6 year old’s nasty meltdown last night led, once we calmed down, to a lovely talk about our inner light, our inner goodness, and how we can let that shine instead of letting anger take control of us. Hopefully it sunk in?

  3. My husband and I discussed this idea only the other day as a strategy to assist our teen to see the positives around him and to also encourage our little ones to have a positive outlook. There’s a lot of self talk going on around here to make it happen, though!
