Enjoy the Journey

Enjoy the Journey

The sleep deprivation, the crazy, unbelievable stories,

The dinnertime conversations, the middle-of-the-day worries,

The ups and the downs, the quiet and the loud,

Enjoy the journey.

The near-perfect homework, the ear-piercing screams,

The fighting in the backseat, the kisses of feet,

The wiggly tooth, the failed attempt at potty training,

Enjoy the journey.

The early morning wake ups, the late night battles,

The he-said, she-said, the best friend dramas,

The hate yous, the I can’t stand yous, the love you to the moons,

Enjoy the journey.

The look moms and the oh nos,

The listen to this and the please be quiet for a minute,

The sibling squabbles, the sibling hugs,

Enjoy the journey.

The calendar slipping into another year, the days coming to a close,

The outgrown clothes, and the worn out shoes,

The handwriting evolving, the challenges bigger,

Enjoy the journey.

Keep a running record of these things because this is YOUR journey to enjoy and remember. Even the hard parts and the “wow, I can’t believe this just happened,” moments.

Every week for this year, I am offering a mindful challenge designed to get you practicing living a more awakened  life. This is Week 42 of 52 of {Project 52} Stay Awake. 1. I have spent so long under a cloud of being who I thought I should be, and I was missing the joy in my life and to busy to see the joy of my children. I discovered these bands because of your post, so thankyou, I love them. can’t wait to get a couple

  2. I am a single mum of 3 great kids. One turning 18, one 17, and one 9. I don’t always remember how awesome they are, as I work full time and they each have their challenges, one has anxiety and ADD, one has ADHD and i vision impaired, and the youngest we have found has a learning disability due to a working memory problem. I have days where I feel like I let them down because I get stressed about life and forget that they are simply great kids. The two eldest ones graduate in 20 days and I can’t believe I got them to the end of high school. This mantra band would remind me on those days that I forget, to stop and just remember the journey and that they really are great kids, and the reason I do everything I do :-)

  3. Because we all need the reminder sometimes, me included. I practice choosing joy daily but sometimes need that extra kick of a reminder. Thanks for reminding all of us!! :)

  4. I belong to a cancer support group and one of the members was discussing her anger today … I understand her anger … losing my husband at 38, having two bouts with cancer, raising my two young children on my own, losing my home … the list goes on… But, each day I get up and count my blessings and look for the JOY … and each night I lay my head down and give thanks and show my appreciation for the healing and dealing and the true joy I discover each day…. We all need a reminder…No matter the message.

  5. Sweet reminder of the ups and downs and journeys of life. Thanks for sharing the poem. And the opportunity to win such a pretty bracelet!

  6. Fantastic poem. I could totally relate. I like that the bracelet is almost like taking the poem with you everywhere you go.

  7. Shawn-this poem is wonderful in its simplicity. I often shy away from using the word simple because it’s been given a bum rap but it can be as simple as enjoying the journey. Thank you.

  8. Great poem/reminder… It's so easy to get busy & forget to be present. Life has so much beauty to offer in each moment….YES! … enjoy the journey…

  9. totally made me ball my eyes out, i am lucky mommy with 4 kids aged 4 and under so with our busy daily routines, this is a great reminder to enjoy the journey and stay in the moment. In order to fully appreciate each moment is to know that it can be taken away. Thank you for this post.

  11. Even though I love my son dearly there are days that a reminder is needed to stop, enjoy and appreciate all that I have.

  12. Great poem…pretty much sums up most of my weeks! How often we forget and need to remind ourselves that the journey is the most fun part of getting anywhere.

  13. I adore your posts. They always seem to hit at the right time. With two little ones under age two, it's not always easy….but I would not trade a single second of any of it, any day, for anything! Life is so short and sometimes we all get caught up in the day to day, or even worrying about the future that we forget how short it really is. Great reminder to stop and enjoy the moments…and so what if you have to "count to ten" 5,000 times a day….the journey is well worth it!

    • Thank you, Amy … the journey, though hard, is definitely worth it. We just have to work together to make it the best experience possible.

  14. Enjoying the journey is about living each day to the fullest. Being the best version of myself every day and staying positive even with life seems down on its luck. There is always the silver lining if you look for it!

  15. I have 2 grown children that have given me so much joy. Recently I lost my sister to breast cancer. She was a single mother to a daughter. I now am her only mother figure .. She is doing it bad at the moment. She suffers with mental illness, probably brought on by her Mothers passing. Now I want to give her something… a new hope, a new joy! So if my post is a winner my niece will get the band…. To show her that even through pain, there is still joy and she can overcome!

  16. I am “in the thick of it” with three children (7,4,1) and I work part time as a preschool teacher, volunteer at my kids school, do soccer, swimming and ballet trips each week as well as try to keep my house in a reasonable condition and keep up with the laundry. Very easy for me to be too caught up or feel like i’m drowning but I know that these precious moments are fleeting and that this is the best time of my life right here, right now

  17. Sometimes the day to day craziness and stress makes me forget to find joy and remember life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful.

  18. Oh my goodness, I love it! With five kids in seven years, if love a wearable reminder to slow down and enjoy the journey! The days are long, but the years are short.

  19. I need to remember to Choose Joy because so often, I choose something akin to fear. Fear doesn’t make my child happy; Joy makes my child happy. Seeing the joy in his face is extremely important to me so I need to make it my priority to Choose Joy. Thanks!

  20. I need to remember to choose joy in my busy life with work and my daughter and two dogs sometimes I forget to be happy and see joy in life….Robin

  21. I need to remember to choose joy because life in general is hard, I am married to a wonderful guy with two awesome boys but it has been less then a year since I lost my Dad to cancer and I don’t really have a mom it is difficult when you don’t have your own “family” anymore :=/

  22. I need to remember joy because the stress of life wears on me day in and day out. I want to choose and a daily reminder would be awesome. I’ve actually been wanting a Mantra band for quite a while but couldn’t decide on one. This one is perfect for me!

  23. Great poem and perfect timing in my life! I often have to sit back, take a breath and take in where my journey has taken me and how, despite the crazy, it’s a good journey to be on.

  24. I need to choose joy because sometimes life tries to get you down and if you turn your back for a second, it will work!

  25. I need to remember to choose joy, because there are many outside forces and messages conveying the exact opposite on a daily basis, and it’s easy to get sucked into the negative if I’m not present and deliberate in my intention to always choose positivity and joy.
